Dubai has announced a holiday for government departments on the occasion of the Islamic New Year.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Dubai Government’s Department of Human Resources declared September 13 (Thursday) a holiday for the public sector to mark the beginning of the new Hijri year.
Earlier, the UAE Cabinet had also declared September 13 as a public holiday, with work resuming on Sunday, September 16.
The first day of the Islamic New Year – Muharram 1, 1440 – will be announced after moon sighting in the country.
